The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calculus
(Second Edition!)

There aren't many math books, let alone calculus books, out there that are very fun to read. In fact, a recent survey showed that 9 out of 10 people would rather be trampled to death by wild stallions than have to read even one sentence of a math textbook. Wow. That's shocking, if not completely fabricated. Enter our hero, swaggering in from stage right, to save the day. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calculus will teach you everything you need to know about Calculus and keep a smile on your face. In addition to straightforward explanations, studying tips, memory techniques, and practice problems with complete and understandable explanations for every step, the book will keep you entertained with its wry sense of humor. Believe it or not, it's a math book you'll actually enjoy reading!

A week before the final exam in Calc 2 last semester, I went out to Barnes and Noble and bought [The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calculus] . It had sequences and series in it so I figured it would help. It did. The professor said I had to get a B on the final to pass the course and I ended up with a C in the course overall, so I must have done great on that final. Not bad for one week with your book! A whole semester with the course assigned book hadn't come close to being that helpful.

This website is super, as is your book, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calculus. I am a 61-year-old successful surgeon who doesn't have to take any math courses as requirements and doesn't have to take any tests or worry about any grades. I just want at last to understand the freshman Calculus they "gave" me a C in 43 years ago! I loved high school algebra and geometry, but then had an utterly uninterested and uninspiring graduate student as instructor in the above-mentioned course, where I was well and truly turned off. I am a researcher and have used stringent statistical procedures in my research, so I am not exactly innumerate, but calculus was to remain for me the known edge of the flat world where ships suddenly fall off into chaos. Your book is wonderful. I understand the material for the first time, and am having fun! Keep up the good work, your enthusiasm is truly inspiring.

Just finished reading "CIG to Calculus" and wanted to send you a note of thanks. I'm 35 years old and am contemplating pursuing a PhD in Business, specifically Finance. As such, I decided to self-study calculus in preparation. I had taken both Calc 1 & 2 in undergrad and marginally passed both. A big problem was my reluctance to do the homework, however a major problem was clearly understanding topics being taught as presented by the professor and the textbooks. So, as a lot of people, I figured that I didn't have a strong aptitude for math beyond the high school level. After reading your book (and gaining some maturity) I'm thinking that maybe my aptitude is not that bad. While I'm not purporting to be a reincarnated Einstein or John Nash, I do think I can become competent enough to do well in Differential Equations and Linear Algebra when the time comes.

I must commend you on that absolutely wonderful book you've written. I'm talking about the Complete Idiot's guide to Calculus. It was and continues to be a lifesaver for me. In high school I despised math; now because of you, I've actually chosen it to be my major. You must, however, write more books! The world needs them. Thanks a ton! You are my hero, man!

I am a freshman in college, and bought your Idiot's Guide book recently. I must say that it has helped me soooooo much. While reading and understanding, I wondered why my old high school calculus teacher and now my college calculus teacher don't teach it like you do. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that your book has helped me understand calculus and helped with homework. Also, never have I enjoyed reading a "help yourself" book more than yours. Seriously, the funny content made me actually want to read more. My personal favorite title was "Honey I Shrunk the Delta x." Brilliant. I was chuckling out loud and my mom looked at me like I was a weirdo for enjoying a calculus book. Thanks again.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your wonderful book, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Calculus, and to let you know how it has changed my life. I am a 36 years old, and recently started to pursue my Bachelor's Degree. (I never went to college before)

I was not very good at math years ago in high school, and I was literally shaking when I found out that I had to take a Calculus course. I stumbled on your website during the summer when I was searching for online calculus help. The Flash presentations that you have created hooked me from the start. I was amazed that I could understand things that I was clueless about in Algebra. Your explainations were so interesting, I found myself watching all the presentations before the semester even started. I was truly hooked. I had to get your book.

What a pleasant surprise. It is so easy to read, and I can't put it down! My calculus professor is (I'll be kind here) not very good, and not much of a people person. And the textbook we have might as well have been in Chinese.

I used your book along with the textbook, and I got a B+ on my first test, and an A on my first quiz. For me, this is outstanding. And I find that I am getting the homework problems correct. Man, I feel like I am on top of the world!!!! I actually ENJOY going to calculus class, and I am helping others in the class.

I think YOU should write a calculus textbook. It would be great!

Thank you so much for taking the time to show others how to tame the monster called calculus, and for showing at least one person (me) that it is possible to enjoy calculus!

I bought your book the other day and just started making my way through it tonight. It's fantastic! Have you ever read Calculus Made Easy? I hear it's a "classic". But man, did that book make me feel stupid. Yours makes me feel, well... not so stupid... even while labeling me an idiot. :)
